It's important To Handle Pre Cut Mat Board With Care

May 11th 2015

When you're setting up an art exhibit or sale, you do everything in your power not to damage the work. It might be your work or someone else's, but no matter whose it is, damaged work can decrease in value or ultimately become unsaleable. Damaging your own work can be frustrating, but damaging someone else's can be frustrating and costly. At Matboard Plus, we handle all of our pre cut mat board with extreme care, and recommend that you do the same.

Each mat board comes in a specific thickness, or ply, and the thinner options are obviously easier to crease and bend. We will pack your mat board appropriately to avoid against any bent corners or creases during shipping. It's also best to handle your mat board while wearing gloves, so you don't transmit fingerprints or oil from your hands onto the board, smudging it or causing discoloration. This is especially important when working with white or lighter-colored mat board, since smudges will show more prominently on those colors.

If you're ordering a double mat, it's important to include exact measurements so that when you place them in the finished frame, a misalignment doesn't detract from the quality of the artwork. Again, when placing the pre cut mat board into a frame, be sure not to bend the corners by pushing too hard or forcing the mat into place. If the mat has been cut properly according to the frame size, there should be no problems when placing and finishing your piece.
