!! MAX Custom Opening Size is 2 inches smaller than Mat Size. This will allow for a minimum 1 inch mat border on each side.
Example: 8x10 Mat, max Custom Opening Size would be 6x8 | 16x20 Mat, max Custom Opening Size would be 14x18
The only exception is for 4x6 and 5x7 mats where the largest Custom Opening is 1" less. Ex., 4x6 Mat, 3x5 max opening. 5x7 mat 4x6 max opening. This will allow for a minimum half inch mat border.
Custom Opening Sizes
Need an 'Opening Size' not listed? Easy, choose the Custom Size* opening option and type in what you want in the Custom Opening Size box. We will cut the opening EXACTLY as you type it in. If you type 8x10, the opening will be exactly 8x10. Please note that if your paper size or artwork is 8x10 it may fall through the opening. In this case, you would want to specify an opening of say, 7.5x9.5, to allow for a .25" overlap on all four sides of the artwork/photo. Subtract .5" from the actual photo or paper size to get this number.
Custom Outsize Dimension Mats (up to 32"x40")
Need a custom mat board size not listed? No problem, simply select the closest size item listed on the site that your custom size will fit into, and we'll cut it down to size for you. No extra cost. Example, if you want a custom size mat of 11x15, you would select a 12x16 mat size; if you want a 17x22 mat you would select a 18x24 mat size. Simply select the larger mat size and then, in the Special Instructions box, type in the outside dimensions that you want. Example, 'Cut mat to 17x22' or 'OD 17x22'. We will then cut the mat (and any matching Backers, if chosen) down to that size for you. No extra cost. Make sure your Opening Size is not too large for the new custom mat board size.
